It has been an ill-fated New Year for the family of a young woman, whose life was taken away after a domestic assault which saw the female beaten to death.
The late Louisa Daniel, 24-years-old from a mixed parentage of Southern Highlands and Gulf province, was a victim of domestic violence.
It is alleged her husband, a former rugby league player and current president of the NCD Suburban League, beat his wife to death.
According to the victim’s family, the incident occurred at the NCD Governor’s Cup Grand Final Game at the Kone Tiger’s Oval in front of spectators.
The victim’s family said while the physical abuse was happening, spectators at the game witnessed the beating.
A female friend who was with the deceased on the day of the incident tried to stop the victim’s husband but he threatened to beat her as well.
The family said after the beating on the field, he then took her away for a couple more days, but when she did not respond, he then took her to the hospital.
The victim’s families then learned of her state in the hospital, and filed a report to the Boroko Police Station and are currently awaiting a response.
Family members said a post mortem is yet to be conducted to determine the cause of death.
