The election of a new Hela Governor is being screened by the Department of Provincial and Local Level Government Affairs.
Minister responsible and Deputy Prime Minister, Sir Leo Dion, says the department is seeking legal advice and clarification on the process taken by Philip Undialu, member for Koroba Lake Kopiago, and Francis Potape, member for Komo Magarima.
The department says there are many discrepancies surrounding the two separate elections.
On July 5, two separate elections of the Hela Governor seat were carried out in Tari.
In the morning hours of that day, Undialu was elected as Governor while Potape was sworn-in in the afternoon.
Both elections have been described as null and void by the Department of Provincial and Local Level Government Affairs.
In a statement released by Sir Leo Dion, it says the department will carry out its own investigation and announce the legitimate governor.
Dion says the department is also yet to receive meeting minutes and consider all procedures taken by the two parties.
Minister Dion made it clear that for now, nobody is the governor, and after its investigation the department will announce its position on the matter.
