Concerns raised for Security Industry Authority to be regulated

The SecurityIndustry Authority has raised concerns for the industry to be regulated. Registrar ofthe authority, Paul Kingston saysthe SecurityIndustry Protection Act also needs to be amended.

This is because of many security companies setting up without proper registration.

Representttatives and heads ofthe sector raisedthe concern during a Law and Order sector committee meeting in Port Moresby recently.

They deliberated onthe existing and emerging trends of law and order issues and challenges confronted bythe country.

Mr Isari in presenting his reports tothe raisedthe concern ofthe increase in number of security companies withoutthe recognition ofthe regulating body.

The authority appreciates security companies for fillingthe vacuum of insufficient police personnel in providing security, it must be regulated.

He says amendingthe Security Protection Act will give more teeth tothe authority to regulate it.

One ofthem is to increasethe guard permit fees from K20 to K100.

Also at presentthere is no Beard of Complaint to address complaints against security companies.
