Newly appointed Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Goroka, Dariusz Kaluza says he will continue the good work left by his predecessor, Bishop Francesco Sarego.
Bishop Dariusz said his focus is to strengthen the family life foundation, the source of everything.
Bishop Dariusz 49 years of age, from the Holy Family Order, has been consecrated into his episcopal ministry as Bishop of Goroka.
On August 20, 2016, he was ordained, and was witnessed by hundreds who gathered at Kefamo Catholic Mission.
Main celebrant was Bishop Francesco Sarego assisted by Madang Archbishop, Stephen Reichart and Mount Hagen Archbishop, Douglas Young.
Over 500 Catholic faithfuls from Mendi where Bishop Dariusz has served for 20 years, also came to celebrate.
The occasion became more meaningful with the presence of Bishop Dariusz’s family from Poland, his mother and brother.
The journey as Shepherd of the Flock has begun for Bishop Dariusz.
“I will continue with the good work. I ask all the people to pray for the priest so that we will walk together,” he said
And for his mother to attend his second ordination, Priesthood and now Bishop, is a lifetime memory.
“I will embrace my life to the Blessed Mother,” he said.
Retired Bishop, Francesco Sarego spoke on the importance of laity and evangelisation in the church today.
“We have to encourage priests to be more in tune to the needs of the people,” he said.
