DWU STUDENTS COMMENDED FOR CLEANING MADANG TOWN

Madang town residence thanked students from the Divine Word University for their effort in cleaning up Madang town last weekend.
The initiative saw over a hundred students took the streets with their brooms, rakes and garbage bags, an act that received praise from the town residence.
The clean-up that took place around the fish market, main market, Kalibobo Oval, and areas near the Water Board, is part of Divine Word University’s preparations for the upcoming pageant.
A mother and a Madang resident Joyce Epsuluk said she was glad to see what the student did.
“I am happy to see what happen. I have been here for five years now,” Epsuluk said.
“I see a lot of rubbish and sometimes I do the clean-up myself. I pick up the rubbish and pile them but the councilors rarely come to get them. So now I am very happy to see Divine Word (DWU) coming out and help us and the councils to remove clean up our rubbish to make Madang clean.”
DWU student representative council female vice president, Tess Duri also said the activity is aimed to promote values like community engagement and respect while helping students connect with the local community.
She described the event as a success, with more students turning up than expected, and showing strong commitment and teamwork throughout the day.
