ORGANISED RESETTELMENT

The Office of Moresby South and the National Capital District Commission are collaborating to resettle the Simbu and Goroka communities from the Two-Mile Hill War Memorial area to a new permanent location in the Six-Mile area.

Yesterday, representatives of the affected families signed documents for the commencement of the resettlement exercise.

Fifty-five homes and eighty families of the Simbu and Goroko communities in two-mile have been given blocks of land with titles in the Saraga and Ragamuga areas in six-mile.

“Budget of K7million has been allocated for the resettlement for the two-mile hill war memorial communities of Simbu and Goroka last year,” Governor Parkop said.

Member for Moresby South and Foreign Affairs Minister Justin Tkachenko said these are hard-working and law-abiding citizens.

“Most of the people have been given blocks already two years ago and the lands are all titled through the work of NCDC”, said Minister Tkatchenko.

Minister Tkatchenko alluded that this is an organized resettlement exercise done in an orderly and professional standard.

He thanked the communities for their corporation, honesty and understanding.

“We did a full household survey in the settlement before anything was allocated,” he added.

Over 180 blocks of land have already been allocated at Ragamuga at six-mile with another 400 blocks to cater for those at Sagara and a new road will go through Ragamuga-Saraga which will link to Kipo and East Boroko.

“From there we will resettle some of the victims of two-mile and the people who have been affected by the road at Kipo,” Tkatchenko further added.

This resettlement exercise is a long process, however, working in collaboration with the NCD Governor Powes Parkop and the communities the first resettlement process has been accomplished.

Today the Simbu and the Goroka communities will be assisted to move their belongings to their permanent location.

Moreover, Governor Parkop said he has allocated budget to move settlers within the city area to new locations.
