HUON GULF DISTRICT 2026 SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM OFFICIALLY OPENED

The Huon Gulf District Administration have officially announced the opening of the 2026 Scholarship Program for students from Huon Gulf District who are currently attending or will be attending Tertiary Institutions in Papua New Guinea.
The scholarship was formally launched by the District Administrator, Mr. Andrew Namuesh, together with the District Education Manager, Mr. Sam Gesang, marking the commencement of the 2026 application process.
According to records in 2025, the District supported over 700 students, providing 25% to 50% financial assistance despite the number of applicants exceeding the District Development Authority (DDA) approved budget.
For the 2026 academic year, the scholarship will be strictly limited to students from Huon Gulf District only. Applications from students outside the District will not be considered.
All applicants must be:
Bona fide residents of Huon Gulf District
Endorsed and verified by their Ward Councillors
From one of the following Local Level Governments (LLGs):
Morobe LLG
Salamaua LLG
Wampar LLG
Any student who is not recognized by their Ward Councilor or local coordinators will not be eligible for the scholarship.
The District Administration strongly emphasizes that receiving a scholarship form does not guarantee approval and all applicants must meet all required criteria and submit complete and verified documentation to be considered eligible for the scholarship award.
This scholarship program is an initiative of the Member for Huon Gulf District, Jason Peter, MP, who is also the Minister for Community Development, Youth and Religion. The program reflects his continued commitment to empowering young people through education.
The Huon Gulf District Administration urges all eligible students to apply responsibly and through the proper ward and LLG channels. This program is designed to ensure that genuine Huon Gulf students benefit fairly from District support.
For more information, students are advised to contact their Ward Councilors or the Huon Gulf District Education Office on Ph. 472 2933 or 472 2914
