Over 20 thousand people from the ATS settlement outside of Port Moresby will benefit from a new market.

This facility will provide a conducive place to sell their produce after years of marketing in the open.

It was opened by Moresby Northeast MP Labie Amaiu and witnessed by invited guests.

The contingent was welcomed by traditional dancers from various provinces around Papua New Guinea leading them to the stage.

The market opening was massive which attracted over 100 people to witness the occasion.

Officiating at the ceremony were Moresby North east MP Labie Amaiu, Office of Rural Development Deputy Secretary Ivah Kila, Contractor Mone Youths Limited Joe Kougeng, PNGDF Air Transport Wing Commanding Officer Colonel John  Matagarakikai and invited guests.

It is an initiative from the member’s office funded under the District’s Support and Improvement Project funds.

The market was built at a cost of K500 thousand by contractor Mone Youths Limited.

ATS Sauga Community Leaders Walter Z-Giza and Sergeant Luke Hopi on behalf of the community thanked Mr Amaiu for responding to their needs by building this facility.

It is situated next to the PNGDF Air Transport Wing Barracks, a government institution established in 1994.
