Businessman Slams Actions by Madang Governor

By Jack Lapauve Jr – EM TV News, Port Moresby

Awaincorp Limited, a locally owned company, has slammed the actions of Madang Governor, Jim Kas, over a portion of land in Madang town.

Awaincorp owner and businessman, Mathew Minape, claims Kas has illegally stopped the development of the piece of land. Minape has filed complaints with the Ombudsman Commission, and investigations are currently in progress.

He is outraged by the actions of Governor Kas after he allegedly ordered the pulling down of a spiked fence on the property.

“I have filed a complaint to watchdog Ombudsman Commission to take appropriate actions against the Madang Governor,” Minape said.

This is not the first time for the Lae businessman to lock horns with provincial government authorities. He has faced similar challenges in Lae over the years.

Minape said his struggles to develop urban areas have always ended up in court battles.

“We can’t allow foreigners to rule our cities or towns, PNG businesses must take the lead and provide employment for our people,” Minape stressed.

Awaincorp Limited says it will wait as the Ombudsman Commission progresses in its investigation.

Meanwhile, in a recent media statement Governor Kas reiterated that the land was taken over illegally.
