The Ambassador-Designate of the Kingdom of Denmark to Papua New Guinea, Casper Klynge, wants to establish stronger government and business ties between the two countries.
Ambassador Klynge was in Port Moresby this week to present his credentials to Governor General, Grand Chief Sir Michael Ogio.
“The embassy is a non-resident embassy based out of Jakarta, Indonesia, but we have been looking forward to coming here for more engagemen’s.
“We want to boost bilateral relations between the two countries. There are thousands of kilometres between Port Moresby and Copenhagen, but we believe that distance should not be a hindrance,” he said.
Klynge also stated that there are many areas in which Denmark can assist Papua New Guinea in development.
“There are basically two areas that we would like to strengthen. There is the government to government cooperation where we already have a strong partnership between our two countries to identify new agendas for the 21st Century.
“Denmark is one of the top five countries in the world who gives up to 0.7 percent of GDP, toward development aid for other developing countries. And we would like to see where we can help PNG in this regard,” he said.
The ambassador was accompanied by a trade delegation of Denmark-based companies, looking at investing in PNG.
The Danish companies included the Falck Group, a company that provides solutions to large operational sites and construction projects; DESMI, one of Denmark’s oldest companies that deals with proven oil spill technology; EnviroPacific PNG, an environmental engineering firm; and Welltec Oilfield Services, a world leading provider of mining intervention services.
The Kingdom of Denmark, is a leader in clean energy development, an area in which Papua New Guinea officials have flagged for cooperation.
Ambassador Klynge said initial discussions with the Petroleum and Energy Minister had resulted in positive enquiries into the renewable energy sector.
