PNGRFL Recognizes Ipatas Cup

Coca Cola Ipatas Cup Competition is now supported bythe PNG Rugby Football League to stage its 2014 season.

Competition CEO, Timothy Lepa commendedthe PNGRFL, hoping to forge a good relationship to develop raw talent inthe sporting code. u00a0

Alreadythe competition has put a mark onthe semi-professional rugby league competition, Digicel Cup.

David Loko ofthe Enga Mioks was one ofthe top Forwards who werethe products ofthe Ipatas Cup. He made his debut into rugby league atthe age of 18 whenthe competition first started more than a decade ago.

The Competition gained support fromthe Enga Goverrnor and Rugby League fanatic, Peter Ipatas, fromthe day it started. Two teams took tothe field. Pioneeringthe Ipatas Cup here, Porgera Nuggets and Morobe Tambuaks.

The competition is now recognized bythe PNGRFL as a genuine off- season league, aimed at identifying raw talent while pavingtheir way intothe national side.

Ipatas Cup, initially started in Lae and moverd out, coverring almost all provinces. 168 teams took part last year but this year will see that number reduced to 68 teams.u00a0 16 teams who qualified forthe finals will meet in Wabag, Enga Province.
