Lands failed to submit bank reconciliation

The Public AccountsInquiry intoLands and Physical Planning Department heard thatthe Department failed to submit bank reconciliations since 2010 as required bythe Public Finance Management Act.

 

It also heard thatthere were no proper records of General Asset Register including Vehicle and ITfacilities.

Chairman Hickey saidthese were simple administrative procedures and questioned why nothing was done.

 

“It has not been performed. Can you inform me why you are not keepingthe register?” Hickey askedLands.
 

 

He toldthe inquiry all bank reconciliations from 2009 through to 2012 were done but admittedthey failed to give copies tothe Auditor General’s Office.

 

Still not satisflied with some ofthe responses, PAC Chairman Hickey put on spotthe specific Trust Accounts he created asthethen Finance Minister. This includedthe K8.5 million for Madang TownLandowners and anther one for the BegiaLandowners.

 

Mr. Hickey discoveredthese funds were used bytheLands Department for ther purposes.

 

“The people of Madang have been very patient in waiting for payment. And, when we achieved that money, NEC approverd itoit turned out that it got lost inthe hays of Administration,” said Hickey.
