Confiscated Liquor Goes to Court for Disposal

By Theckla Gunga – EM TV, Port Moresby

All confiscated liquor by police in NCD and Central during the festive operations, will be given to the State to sell off at a price determined by the courts.

This will happen if owners fail to claim them after six months.

Police say in most cases, owners of the liquor usually do not turn up to claim the liquor.

Much of confiscated alcohol was removed from unlicensed beer operators in residential areas and settlements in NCD.

The removal of liquor in residential areas by police has caused residents in Port Moresby to question where all these this liquor will go. The public’s assumptions and queries have proven that many are unaware of where confiscated items go, once they come under police custody.

In this case, if owners fail to claim their liquor, it will be submitted to the courts for disposal.

Upon the releasing of a Certificate of Disposal by the Courts, all liquor will be sold at a price decided upon by the courts, and monies collected will be given to the State.

Owners of the confiscated alcohol, who wish to claim their liquor, are requested to present their liquor licenses before it can be released to them.

In the meantime, the imposed liquor ban on the sale of alcohol in residential areas in NCD will continue indefinitely while the ban in Central province will be lifted on Sunday, 4 January 2015.
