TIPNG Develops New Education Curriculum for Teachers and Students

By Jana Zoriry – EMTV Online

Transparency International PNG (TIPNG) has developed a School-based Civic Education Curriculum aimed at assisting teachers and students to identify the functions and processes of Civil Society and State Institutions.

The curriculum will help teachers and students to apply skills of active citizenship and interact with state institutions to demand better governance.

It comes with materials containing elements and concepts of good governance, accountability, transparency and integrity.

Materials such teacher resource books, background reading for teachers, student readers, DVDs, and  posters.

A teacher training is also conducted.

The materials also includes an android phone application.

TIPNG’s Executive Director, Ms Arianne Kassman says the civic education training workshops have helped teachers to realise the suitability of the materials developed when they are used with existing materials.

She added that they wanted children to learn their rights and responsibilities at an early age through TIPNG’s School-based Civic Education Curriculum.

She also adds TIPNG wants to contribute to instilling a higher level of integrity in students before they step into the real world.

Meanwhile, TIPNG completed an Information Session for Teachers at Hagara Primary School recently, under the curriculum.

The session aimed at introducing teachers to the Civic Education Curriculum materials which they developed was completed last week.
