On December 8, Melissa Chance Yassini, from Dallas, Texas, came home to her daughter, Sofia, in tears.
She took to Facebook to share the cause of her daughter’s distress.
Melissa’s post went viral, receiving thousands of shares, likes and comments.
An army veteran from Denver, Colorado, Kerri Peek, who is also a mother herself, responded to Yassini on Facebook.
What happened next saw people in the Armed Forces, active and veterans, posting on Facebook and Twittter with the hashtasg #IWillProtectYou in their uniforms offering support, for not only Sofia, but all frightened Muslims.
The hashtag campaign was intended to let children know that they are safe in America and that they will be protected regardless of race, religion, sex, etc.
Melissa Yassini has received almost 500 messages from active members in the military, veterans, citizens, Christians, Jews, atheists, people from all walks of life.
