Thousands Attend First Day of Morobe Show

By Bethanie Harriman – EM TV News, Lae

About 100,000 people from all over the country flocked to the Lae Showgrounds today for the start of Morobe Show.

For years the show has revolved around industries and agriculture.

People began pouring in to the Lae Showground at 9:00am.

Tickets sales began a week ago, today it continued as usual while the security remained tight.

The main area was filled to capacity by 11:00am.

Face painters were out in full force as they were last year.

The day began with Rodeo and Motorcycle displays.

Usually on the first day, The Morobe show isn’t as colourful compared to the Hagen or Goroka Shows where cultural displays form the core of the activities.

This is an agricultural show. Its primary focus for years has been large and small industries and of course agriculture.

Food security, in recent years, has become an important part of the show with the headquarters of the National Agriculture Research Institute playing a pivotal role in awareness.
