Services In Kainantu Disrupted Due To Water Crisis

Water problems inthe small town of Kainantu inthe Eastern Highlands Province have forcedthe closure of basic government’services. 

 

Police operations, health services and education have scaled downtheir operations until water is restored.

More than fifty young Kainantu Police personnel are currently living in a condemned building.

 

 

The residents saythe problem is getting worse each day.

 

The town’s main sewerage system has clogged, and town residents rely on dugout wells intheir backyard to source water.

 

Atthe ther end of town,the only big health facility has ceased its medical operations.

 

The Kainantu Technical Secondary School principle saidthe school might possibly be forced to close.

 

The level of basic services has dropped significantly inthe past month. The people saythere’re aren’t any significant developments taking place sincethe last national election, andthey are angry – angry becausethey see this as government neglect for over a decade, andthey saidthey want answers fromthe Prime Minister.

 

More government’services in Kainantu Town are expected to ceasetheir operations.

 

Kainantu town is a township in crisis.Inthe next two weeks, or perhaps sooner than that,the town will be condemned as one ofthe most unsafe and unhygienic places to live in.
