Security to Improve at All Venues

by Lorraine Genia – EM TV Sports, Port Moresby

The welfare of players and officials was not the only issue sighted from Saturday’s match between the Agmark Gurias and TNA Lions at Sir John Guise Stadium

The consumption of alcohol by spectators was a growing concern for many, who turned up to support the game in good spirit.

Minister for Sports, Justin Tkatchenko, confirmed this was the case on Saturday, and assured the PNG Sports Foundation will step in to improve the security of the public, venues and players.

“It seems that the checking was not done properly and individuals slipped through with alcohol or being intoxicated.

“We will be sitting down and going through these issues to ensure the security is much tighter,” he said.

Tkatchenko ensured these measures will be taken care of as soon as possible, particularly with the annual Prime Minister’s XIII match taking place at the end of the month.

“We have the PM’s XIII coming up, and we have to make sure the mistakes from the past are not repeated again,” he said.
