PNG as part of the Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) will implement the MSG free trade agreement.
This means the country will now be introducing duty-free status products traded with Vanuatu, Fiji and Solomon Islands.
However, taxes and tariffs on mackerel, sugar and salt will remain for the time being.
MSG’s Director Merewalesi Falemaka said free trade agreement could be in full effect as of next year.
PNG has agreed to scrape duties on almost all of its protected goods.
