2015 saw PNG boxing excel to greater heights, with many of PNG’s best, showing great potential to take part in bigger competitions in the World.
This year, boxers will be aiming to compete in the Rio Olympic Games.
PNG Boxers went through many training sessions last year in preparation for the Pacific Games.
With the success achieved during the Games, came Government support for the code. The PNG Government has also promised to send some of PNG’s elite boxers to train in Cuba.
Cuba is the leading amateur boxing nation in the world, with many of their fighters, successful in the sport.
They will be leaving early this year for training in preparation for the Olympic qualifiers in Beijing. PNG Boxing Association is yet to receive word from AIBA and Oceania on when the Women’s Boxing qualifiers for Rio will be held.
