PORT MORESBY, July 5 – His Royal Highness the Duke of York (GBR) commissioned the Port Moresby 2015 Games Village on Saturday by placing the baton back into its plinth signifying the end of the relay.

“This baton has been around the country and is a symbol of calling to action. This action is about sports, camaraderie, is about team work and is about leadership,” the Prince said.

Queen Elizabeth’s second son said that by placing the baton back on the plinth it signified the importance of athletes being part of the Games and each person’s call to action to compete well in their sport.

Prime Minister Peter O’Neill (PGN) sent a letter to Buckingham Palace earlier this year asking if Prince Andrew was available to attend the Port Moresby 2015 Games. The Prince arrived in PNG on Thursday, July 2.

Prince Andrew opened the Games in Port Moresby 24 years ago.

He said there had been a lot of changes since 1991 and that is was a pleasure to be back in the country not only to open the Games, but to renew friendships.
