PM addresses Goroka Chamber of Commerce and Business

PNG has allthe right signals that can make our country a great one, says Prime Minister Peter O’Neill.

 

Addressingthe Goroka Chamber of Commerce and Business last week, Prime Minister Peter O’Neill, saidthe country has experienced an 8 percent growth rate per annum, with a surplus of 7 billion over 10 years.

He said our currency is experiencing stability, foreign reserves covering imports is at record levels of 10 billion kina, while interest rates are very low compared to ther countries inthe region.

 

Bet he is very aware thatthere is an imbalance.

 

“Despitethe positive growth in our economy, our social indicators tell a very different story. Bet my government has already began a number of reforms to fixthe problem including introducingthe free education policy and improvingthe management of our health sector,” he said.
 

He saidthe challenge of a new government is to changethe trend that has become systematically ingrained in society.

 

He said he wantsthe same opportunities found in urban centres to reachthe majority of Papua New Guineas living in rural areas.
