Payabe: LNG Project under No Threat

Executives of the PDL 7 landowners Umbrella Association say there’s no threat to the LNG project as reported recently, instead they have called on all landowners from this area to air their concerns through the association and not as individuals.

However they say the government has outstanding LBSA (Licensed Based Benefits Sharing Agreement) and UBSA (Umbrella Benefits Sharing Agreement) commitments, and should fast track these payments.

Executives of the Hides 4 Landowners Umbrella Association of PDL 7 say there are so many outstanding commitments and individual landowners should not issue threats to disturb the project, but instead they should negotiate with the Government and the developer through this association, as this is their mouth piece.

This is the Association that represented them during the agreement signing in Kokopo and Tari.

Some members of the association aired their frustrations last week asking the government to honor the commitments made to them.

Deputy Chairman of the Association Chris Payabe says a petition was given to the Government in April last year. A year has gone by and nothing has been done, not even a response.

He said they have already advised lawyers to take this matter up if the Government still fails to respond to their petition. Therefore, they’ve called on the members of the association to come through the association to express their concerns.

They called on the Government and the developer to facilitate a meeting that will see them come together and reach a solution.
