Paiam General Hospital Gets K2million

by Stanley Ove Jr – EM TV, Port Moresby

Mining Minister, Byron Chan, told Parliament yesterday that the Paiam General Hospital will receive K2 million funding from the Mineral Resource Authority (MRA) to maintain the operations of the hospital.

This is in response to the funding issues faced by the hospital.

K4 million is required to fund the Paiam Hospital every year. But since 2012, inconsistency of funding has accumulated to over K10 million outstanding, which is yet to be released to the hospital.

Minister Chan did not comment on the K10 million outstanding, however, he said MRA will release K2million into Paiam Hospital in the coming days.

The Paiam General Hospital is a level four general hospital providing vital medical service to over 200, 000 people in the Laiagam/Porgera District and surrounding areas.
