New Law To Educate All Children

The Education Department will be pushing for a new law to be embedded in the Organic Law.

The law will demand that all children in PNG must be educated by a way of legislation.

This was announced by Education Minister, Nick Kuman at the launch of EQUI TV program in Manus.

The EQUI TV program is aimed at reducing the learning gap between rural and urban schools in PNG.

It was trailed in East Sepik, the Autonomous Region of Bougainville and Central province.

It is a partnership program between the Japanese International Corporation Agency and the PNG government.

Speaking during the EQUI TV launch in Manus, the education minister emphasised the need for quality education and encouraged parents to embrace the government’s Free Education Policy.

He said parents should make sure their children are given the chance to be educated.

The minister also presented a cheque of K500, 000, to ten selected schools in Manus.

Supporting his comment, education secretary, Michael Tapo said Information is important for the development of any community.

He encouraged school principals in Manus to send in reports of student enrolment lists to the education department in Port Moresby, so the government can allocate funds to assist the schools under it’s Free Education Police.

JICA has provided teacher training for many teachers in  PNG, to carry out the program in schools in the country.
