Morobe Province’s Nawaeb District is the first in the country to present its 5-year plan to the Department of Implementation and Rural Development (DIRD) Office.
Nawaeb MP, Kennedy Wenge, says the plan is designed from an LLG perspective with focus to linking the rural areas through impact projects. Economic generation, transport, and infrastructure, are the key focus areas. Speaking after the presentation, the elected MP says roads are the key infrastructure in linking the District. He says the 5 year plan hopes to help improve living standards and explore the agricultural potential of the district. “This plan is from a local level government perspective, the key is helping rural communities,” said MP Wenge.
The District Chief Executive says the plan is linked to the Provincial and National development goals. Wain Erap, Nabak, Labuta and Ahi are the four Local Level Governments.
President of Wain Erap, Charlie Foikec, challenged policy makers not to alter National Development Plans as it affects district plans in most cases.
Senior officers from DIRD were present to receive the 5 Year Plan on behalf of the Department’s Secretary.
Nawaeb public servants, LLG presidents, officers from the Morobe Provincial Government, and the Nawaeb MP were present to witness the occasion.
