Today (June 8), staff of the National Agriculture Quarantine and Inspection Authority or NAQIA in Port Moresby, closed office out of respect to accept the body of the late Dr. Gibasa Asiba.
Dr. Asiba was with his team in Nuku District of Sandaun Province investigating reported cases of suspicious deaths of domesticated and wild animals when he passed away. His body arrived at 2pm today (June 8) at Jackson’s Airport on a NAQIA chartered flight. Grieving NAQIA staff were there to receive his body.
Dr. Asiba is remembered by his fellow colleagues as a great veterinarian who championed his profession in the country and also in the international arena.
He was the PNG Veterinary Surgeons Association President, Chief Meat Inspector, Chief Animal Brands Officer, Chief Veterinary Officer, an OiE Delegate.
