The people of Maprik District in East Sepik Province are expected to see improvements in air service and health facilities.
Prime Minister Peter O’Neill and Coalition Partner, National Alliance Party Executives visited Maprik District and promised the people funding assistance, a kina for a kina.
Mr ONeill went on to commit K30 million to the hospital and airport construction.
PM O’Neill and the full National Alliance Party led by founder and former Prime Minister Grand Chief Sir Michael Somare flew into Maprik to officiate at the Hayfield Airport ground-breaking ceremony.
Prior to the event, a reconciliation ceremony was held by Ambellen Chiefs from Maprik. Both the former and current Prime Ministers said sorry for the political impasse of 2011 and pledge to form a strong alliance to create political stability.
The Prime Minister and his delegates also visited the Maprik District Hospital, where he unveiled the plaque for the hospital’s Ten Year Plan.
K60 million is needed to fully upgrade the run-down facility in Central Sepik. The District has allocated K9 million and another K9million was committed by the Prime Minister during his visit.
He told the people that improved services are important as they better the living standard of the people.
Maprik is considered to be the Central location for both East and West Sepik. Maprik MP John Simon said he wants the impact projects to be underway as they will benefit not only his people but six other Districts in both provinces.
It is anticipated, that construction works will begin soon.
