The 400-year-old King James Bible, placed in the Parliament Chamber, means that members of Parliament must now stop corrupt practices.
These were views expressed by several people in Manus Province after criticizing the parliamentary Speaker on this move.
They said that Speaker Theo Zurenuoc’s move, of placing the King James Bible in the Parliament Chamber, is undemocratic.
From interviews conducted around Manus Province, people expressed their views on this move saying it was a biased decision that lacked proper consultation.
Mathias Wawah, a church elder at Nuwok Seventh Day Adventist said PNG is a Christian Nation; every citizen has the right to choose his or her religion.
While appreciating the Speakers move, Wawah said his power, as the Governments third legislation arm, doesn’t apply to dictating the kind of bible.
But for John Kamau, he supports this move for a change.
The bible, he said, will become the compass and guide for members of parliament to fear the Lord.
They further call on the Speaker to consult rightful church authorities like the PNG Council of Churches and not minorities like the Body of Christ.
