Lae City Contractors Want Outstanding Payments Settled

Contractors contracted to the Lae City Council are asking why they have not yet been paid for over five months.

The Lae District Administrator, Robin Calastus, says that funds are available but the mechanisms to release funds have been delayed.

“The delay is coming from the national government,” he said.

The contractors say money owed to them has not been paid to them for the last five months.

They are contracted to do work ranging from construction to providing security as city rangers.

“We need money to meet expanses in the city such as school fees for our children,” said Contractor, Limson Obe.

The provincial administration releases money to the district administration that is tasked to make payments to the contractors through Lae City council.
