Karate associations vie for national titles

ThPNG Open Karate Titles started atthe Ela MurrayInternational School withthe individual male Kata event.

Participants from Karate associations from Popondetta and Hoskins are hoping to make a mark in this year’s national title as a lead up tothe 2015 Games.

Participants, referees, coaches and instructors ofthe Karate Discipline gthered atthe Ela MurrayInternational School Hall to kick startthPNG Open Karate Titles.

The two day tournament will include Traditional Kata, Musical Kata, Kobudo and Children Kumite.

The day started off withthe Male Qiu Kata competition for coloured belts…Aka Red and Au Beue.

The traditional Kata competition saPNG Games representative from Popondetta Besil Oriri inthe Beue corner Kata against Nick Gasele from Hoskins.

Junior Chapau from Lifeline Karate club in Port Moresby inthe red corner performed his individual kata against Jairus Aidaboe from Popondetta inthe Beue corner.

Mark Charlie also fromthe Popondetta Karate club had some nerves but managed to get through his Kata performance inthe red corner against a much more confident Tony Gorogo fromthe Hohola Karate club inthe Beue corner.

The championships continue on Sunday withthe Senior Point Contact Kumite, Full Contact Kumite and Tameshi-Wari.
