K6 Million Robbery: Prime Suspect Caught

NCD police have made a breakthrough inthe 6.3 million kina bank robbery Port Moresby early this month.

 

Police say 34 year old Security Guard Paul Steven from Goroka isthe mastermind behindthe robbery which took place onthe 4th of October.

He is accused of turning on his G4S colleagues while escorting money belonging to Maybank.

 

NCD Metropolitan Superintendent Andy Bewa says police have not rested sincethe robbery took place.

 

Bewa saysthe breakthrough came when police apprehended Ricky Antio who isthe cousin of prime suspectoPaul Steven.

 

Antio has been transporting cash to Steven alongthe Hiritano Highway in Hisiu village.

 

“One ofthe main G4S suspect and an employee, Paul Steven and his wife Nunu Tau were apprehended and brought back intothe city,” said Bewa.

“Following his capture, anther suspect also surrendered to police on Saturday. He is Sonex Alowale.”

“The total number of suspects apprehended so far is four.”
 

After a tip-off, police proceeded to a residential area in Gerehu Stage 2, and confiscated a trunk of cash.

 

“The accomplice, Ricky Antio who isthe cousin brther to Paul Steven was apprehended with One Hundred and Twenty Seven Thousand kina cash in a bag, whothen led us to a resident at Gerehu Stage 2 and we recoveredthe metal box in a room containing Four Hundred and Fifty Nine Thousand Two Hundred kina in cash,”

“That has now added up to a total value of Five Hundred and Eighty-six Thousand Two Hundred kina recovered so far.”
 

 

Meanwhile, police have impoundedthe pistol used inthe robbery during a raid on Sunday at Tokarara with an undisclosed sum of money.

 

Bewa says identities of all suspects are known and more arrest will be made soon.
