Israel Eliab: The Captain For SP Hunters

Port Moresby Vipers’ half back and team Kumul player, Israel Eliab, is now the SP PNG Hunters Captain.

Eliab’s captaincy comes as no surprise because of the quality of leadership he displayed during the recent trial matches played.

The announcement was made in front of the Rugby League immortals Andrew Johns and Wally Lewis at the Hunter’s Season Proper, launched yesterday.

All players were dressed in suits as they welcomed the guests into the dining hall.

It was a great moment for players, team management and sponsors to meet and greet and for some, a good opportunity to meet in person with the two rugby league immortals Andrew Johns and Wally Lewis.

Played 23 State of Origin series matches for the New South Wales Blues, Andrew Johns is the living testimony for the players.

Wally Lewis nicknamed ‘The King’ and also the ‘emperor of Lang Park’ is not new in PNG and has fans and followers who still remember his game tactics.

He was the captain for 30 of the 31 State of Origin matches he played for Queensland Maroons from 1980 to 1991.

The duo ignited the night while the Hunter’s captain was announced.

Israel Eliab will pilot the team for this season.

Queensland Rugby League Chief Executive Officer Rob Moore welcomed the newcomers, hoping for the team’ to run the table’.

The SP PNG Hunters stand firm from the mountains to the coast truly embracing the culture, and the love of the game.

They are ready to hunt for the Intrust Super Cup.
