The Morobe Provincial Government has been put under pressure to fix bridges along the Bukawa Road after the success of a taro project in Buhalu village.
Today, Morobe Governor, Kelly Naru, said the provincial government has spent K5 million on the road but it plans to do more with the help of the national government.
“We have had support from aid donors, the Japanese government, but for us we have spent around four to five million kina, the Bukawa Road is going all the way to Fincshhafen,” he said.
Naru’s response comes a day after locals in Bukawa highlighted agricultural potential in the area and the need for better infrastructure.
People in Buhalu village have called for a bridge to be built across the Busu River after the success of a taro project that involves over 200 farmers in the area.
They called for support in speeches during the opening of a taro processing facility and the handing over of a new truck by the Morobe Provincial Government on Tuesday. Today, they get an answer from the governor.
“For the Buhalu taro project, the people need a new Busu bridge that was swamped away by floods,” said Governor Naru.
