Nukuitu Family Recipients of First Home Ownership Housing Scheme

It was a dream come true for Stephen Nukuitu and his family to finally own a home.

They are part of the public servants who have benefited from the Government’s First Home Ownership Housing Scheme project worth K200 million.

Reporter, Vasinatta Yama witnessed the opening of Stephen Nukuitu’s family home, a life changing experience for him and his family.

Nukuitu is a father of two beautiful girls and is from Bougainville. He is the Deputy Secretary Operations in the Department of Finance.

His family has always dreamt of owning a home, but time never allowed it until today.

Nukuitu now has a shelter, a place where his wife described as a mansion, located at Tokarara in the nation’s capital. It is a joint housing scheme between the Finance and Treasury Department, and National Planning.

The program first started in 1995, but stopped for various reasons.

This is the first of thirty-one new homes for staff of the Finance Department.

Finance Secretary, Dr Ken Ngangan, officiated the ceremony today.

The day also marks the reactivation of their housing scheme.

More affordable homes will be built and presented to public servants who are first home owners, under the four per cent Bank South Pacific housing scheme.

Nukuitu’s home design has motivated other public servants in bringing new concepts of homes in Papua New Guinea to transform the way they live.
