The National Government has assured the people of Tambul-Nebilyer that immediate assistance will be provided to more than 50 thousand people whose food gardens have been destroyed by last week’s frost.
Chief Secretary, Sir Manasupe Zurenuoc, today received a detailed report from the Western Highlands Administrator, Joseph Neng, and Tambul-Nebilyer district administrator, Douglas Lingawa, which expresses high level concerns over food and water shortages.
Sir Manasupe is urging all disaster-hit provinces to provide assessment reports of the population affected and the scale of the damages caused by the disaster.
“With these assessment reports from the affected provinces and districts, the government will be able to provide funding and relief assistance accordingly.
“Tambul-Nebilyer has been the most affected district by the frost catastrophe and is currently in dire need of relief assistance,” Sir Manasupe said.
Tambul was hit by a week of frost that destroyed food gardens.
Experts have also predicted night time temperature in the high altitude district to drop by a further 1 degree Celsius if the drought conditions continue.
