The fight against Sorcery Accusation Related Violence or SARV received a massive boost as the lead agency for sorcery related issues in the country, the Department of Justice and Attorney General or DJAG signed four agreements to support implementing partners.
In the past, not one formal agreement was signed by the Justice Department with implementing partners in regards to the fight against SARV.
Yesterday marked a significant milestone as four implementing partners signed these agreements.
Since the conversation started in 2009 a national action plan was created.
In 2015 the Government through the National Executive Council approved the National Action plan and allocated funding of K3million annually to address Sorcery accusation related violence.
But none of that funding was received by the Justice Department until this year.
This agreement now is to implement the component that the government promised in 2015 and work closely with communities who are affected with sorcery related issues.
Child Fund, Consultative Implementation and Monitoring council or CIMC, Tribal Foundation and Wantok Radio Light will be the implementing partners under this agreement.
These organizations have been working tirelessly in the past years to help victims of sorcery accusation related violence.
The signing of the agreements will see a positive push in addressing this vital issue.
