FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup: Quarter Finals Preview

The third and fourth quarter-finals of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup tomorrow, will feature first the decider between the CONCACAF and North American counterparts USA and Mexico.

While that will be followed after by European arch-rivals Germany and France who will face-off in what is expected to be a tight contest.

Mexico having never before reached the semi-finals will be eager to get passed the Stars and Stripes who are thee-three time winners of this particular competition.

USA will go into this match as favourites with their star forward and captain, Mallory Pugh leading the chargers while keeping the line-intact is 17-year-old Ashley Sanchez and Emily Fox, 18.

The last quarter final match will see Germany also three-time winners of the FIFA U20 Womens’ World Cup, against France who have featured in two previous semi-finals.

In a press conference Germany coach, Maren Meinert, says they enjoy the rivalry at this level but her team is focussed and is certain to progress to the next stage of the competition.

Meanwhile, Germany will be focusing on shutting down deliveries from two time player-of-the-match, Delphine Cascarino.

The France midfielder has been lethal in counterattacking and providing inch-perfect delivery to her flankers in the two pre-match outings.

However France coach, Gilles Eyquem, admits that Cascarino is an all rounded player but it’s about the performance of the team and the No.7 is an integral part of it.

Both matches will be played at the Sir John Guise Stadium tonight at 4pm and 7:30pm respectively.
