Despite Friday night’s overcast in Lae city, hundreds of supporters turned up at the Sir Ignatius Kilage stadium for round one of the 2015 Telikom National Soccer League competition.
Lae city dwellers opened up the scoreboard, two minutes into the game, with Nigel Dabinyaba sending in his first goal for 2015.
Five minutes later, FC Pom’s Neil Hans puts the ball in front for teammate Andrew Marapau to equalize the score.
Raymond Gunemba retaliated by sending in another goal for the dwellers to take over the lead at two goals to one.
Both teams put on entertaining 90 minutes of football with young Port Moresby goalkeeper Charles Lepani stopping several goal attempts from the dwellers.
Andrew Lepani, Cyril Muta and Neil Hans led a host of experienced players against a young Lae side.
A corner strike from Neil Hans in the second half found the net for the Port Moresby boys to level the score at two-all.
City dwellers coach, Peter Gunemba didn’t make any changes during the game, which allowed fatigue to capitalise on his side.
Nigel Dabinyaba and Raymond Gunemba were commended for their outstanding defence and attack for the Lae City Dwellers.
They led a pack of new players who have no experience playing in the semi-professional competition.
Games in Port Moresby were suspended on technical grounds and washout games are to be played during the week.
Meanwhile, the Lae boys will travel to Madang in the coming weekend to play the Madang Fox, while FC POM will be on bye.
