The Kukari family from Oro and East Sepik have only one New Year’s resolution; to raise enough funds to send their father overseas for a stem cell treatment.
60-year-old Arnold Kukari from East Sepik, suffers from hydronephrosis; both his left and right kidneys are gradually losing their functions. And requires urgent medical treatment overseas.
For those of you who are not sure what hydronephrosis is, it is the swelling of a kidney due to a build-up of urine. It happens when urine cannot drain out from the kidney to the bladder from a blockage or obstruction.
Dr. Kukari isn’t a doctor in the medical field but rather a Dr of Philosophy. He holds a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Pennsylvania. He was diagnosed with hydronephrosis last year.
Despite seeking treatment at the Pacific International Hospital, the Doctors at PIH have done everything they could.
Dr. Alexander Paul, the senior medical specialist at Pacific International Hospital had recommended Dr. Kukari to go overseas for a stem cell treatment (use of stem cells for kidney regeneration).
Now, the family is seeking medical treatment in Malaysia. And to do that, they need money, K300, 000.00 to be exact.
For the past weeks, the family has been doing series of fundraising to raise funds for the medical treatment. They have been cooking and selling food dishes for K100.00/dish and are also planning to host a ‘Kokoda Track Runathon’ in May.
If you would like to make place your order for a ‘Food Dish’ or sign up for the runathon, kindly do so through their Facebook page the family had set up for their Father: Dr. Arnold Kukari’s Medical Appeal.
