Who would have thought the earnings from the sale of ice blocks can lead to owning and operating a bigger business? Dungul Umba now owns a tyre service, a trade store and a piggery, but it was all from the sale of ice blocks.
It has been 32 years since Dungul moved to the piece of land, he now settles on, but his story begins in 1987, when he transferred from his home province of Simbu to the Nation’s Capital. From the profit of K10 made each day, Dungul was able to buy a compression and ventured into operating a tyre service.
He later started a piggery business and now has plans to build rental accommodation. Doing business in Papua New Guinea, there are some unique challenges Dungul must overcome to see his business grow even more bigger.
Dungul is an example of a hardworking father who wants to give his children the best in life, especially at a time when PNG is experiencing an economic crisis.
