Call to revive National Gas Corporation

By Jack Lapauve Jr – EMTV News, Port Moresby

A faction of landowners in the PNG LNG Project are questioning why the State has ignored the powers and establishment of the National Gas Corporation. Leaders from Juha, Hides, and Angore say the National Gas Corporation is the right entity to manage all benefits of landowners.

They say Mineral Resources Development Company (MRDC) is not the right entity and has caused many issues especially royalty and equity benefits.

Michael Sone from the PDL 9 area says the National Gas Corporation was established to serve landowner interest but was neglected by the State. He says for almost 10 years the Government has kept a tight lip about NGC.

According to the concerned resource owners, the National Gas Corporation is an Act of Parliament but its powers were limited. MRDC is now playing the role. However, the landowners see that MRDC is not serving the interest of resource owners.

The Juha, Hides and Angore leaders are calling on the State to enable powers of NGC so royalty among other benefits are parked and managed.

They believe the National Gas Corporation is the right entity to serve interest and benefits of resource owners. The National Gas Corporation will be one of the main talking points of resource owners in Hela during the Oil and Gas Development Forum this year.
