Chief Secretary to Government, Isaac Lupari, says PNG is set and ready to deliver a secure and successful APEC 2018 Leaders’ Summit in November, this year.
Mr. Lupari made this remarks when addressing APEC staff and officials at the International Convention Centre, last Friday.
“The biggest challenge we have had was to challenge the APEC community that PNG was ready to host APEC in 2018, and we have shown and are going to show we will deliver APEC this year,’’ said Chief Secretary Lupari.
In a press statement, he said that when PNG bid in 2013, it was a tough moment for Prime Minister Peter O’Neill, and government officials, considering security measures needed in hosting the summit for world leaders.
The Chief Secretary also thanked the Prime Minister and the Government for the budget funding it has consistently given to the PNG APEC Authority.
Highlighting the advantages of hosting the Leaders Summit, Lupari says this will place PNG on the world map in November when world leaders of the most successful and powerful countries come to PNG.
Meanwhile, Mr. Lupari also thanked donor partners and countries including Australia, New Zealand, China, the United States and others who are helping with security meeting preparations.
