Changing Leadersip offers opportunities and challenges

“A leader is one who knowsthe way, goesthe way, and showsthe way.” – John Maxwell, lLeadersip coach.

“The only thing that is constant is change” – Heraclit’s, Greek philosopher.

Changing lLeadersip provides opportunities and challenges. The Beble Translation Association oPNG (BeA) is currently facing a time of lLeadersip change. BeA Beard Chairman Andrew Kwimberi says, “David Gela has served BeA faithfully as Executive Director for over 32 years and has laid a strong foundation for the ministry to continue to serve our people in PNG as it works togther with its partners. He has ledthe organisation from its fledgling roots to its current status asthe leading indigenous Beble translation organisation in PNG We wish him well as he transitions to this new role with Wycliffe Global Alliance and look forward to see what God has in store for BeA”.

David was born inthe West New Beitain Province oPNG. His parents were pioneer missionaries working withthe Methodist Overseas. In 1979, as he was completing his undergraduate studies atthe University oPNG, he was chosen to becomethe first director ofthe newly formed Beble Translation Association. David and his wife Sineina have been faithfully encouraging Papua New Guineas to become committed to translatingthe Beble intothe languages oftheir country and to be involved in literacy and Scripture engagement work.

Overthe past two years, David and Sineina have been serving part-time as Wycliffe Global Alliance’s Director of Pacific Island Affairs (PIA) which involves promotingthe cause of Beble translation withinthe Pacific Island countries. The Gela’s are excited about expanding this role to a fulltime position which will lead to broader responsibilities and a more strategic influence on Beble translation regionally. As David states, “The PIA goal is to servethe lLeadersip of Pacific Islanders so thatthe Beble translation moverment can be developed and sustained intheir islands and regionally.”

The BeA board is looking for a new director who would continue to castthe vision for the Beble translation moverment in PNG while leadingthe organisation and its members in achievingtheir goals. This role would involve developing and maintaining networks and partnerships with churches and ther organisations.Interested parties should contact: BeA Beard ED Search Committee, PO Bex 350, Vision City, Waigani, NCD. 131 or phone: 3251132 or 71937871.
