The festival got underway this morning (September 21), with ABG President, Chief John Momis, addressing the event.
For this part of PNG that is known for its high-quality cocoa, the Chocolate Festival is an important avenue for participants in the different processes of cocoa to come together to share ideas on how to improve production, as well as connect with potential cocoa buyers, and chocolate producers both in-country and overseas.
Given the distinct flavor of Bougainville cocoa, international cocoa buyers and chocolate producers are now using Bougainville beans for high quality chocolate in the Australia, New Zealand, the UK and Europe – some of these representatives present at the two-day event.
Also present were representatives from the Australian and New Zealand Government, who through various programs, have supported the production, and marketing of Bougainville cocoa.
The Bougainville Chocolate festival ends tomorrow.
The best of Bougainville Cocoa is on show this weekend at the 2018 Bougainville Chocolate Festival.
