A  meeting by heads of law enforcing agencies in Vanimo has resolved to close access to Batas market due to security concerns at the PNG-Indonesia border.

West Sepik Police Commander Moses Ibsagi said the Provincial Intelligence Committee resolved to have the border closed indefinitely. This will allow time for committee members to gather more information about the recent shootout between Indonesian troops and armed West Papuan militants.

Ibsagi said the information they have. is very sketchy and security forces are monitoring border activity.

Ibsagi said they have a Provincial Disaster Committee set up but still lack the capacity to cater to provide assistance to those who come as refugees.
