The Executive Director of Business Coalition for Women, Evonne Kennedy said Family and sexual violence is a major concern and a human rights issue in PNG.
She said the major impacts of Family and Sexual violence in the workplace affects an employee’s performance. They get distracted, tired or unwell causing conflict and tension with co-workers.
Business Coalition for Women aims to support companies to address violence.
Ms Kenedy said according to the survey conducted by the PNG Law Reform Commission around two thirds of women had been hit by their husbands and one third of men had been hit by their wives.
She said these men and women are employed across all sectors and range from junior staff to the most senior executives and it is very probable that some employees are affected by family and sexual violence.
She added that their aim is to ensure workplaces are safe, free of violence and supportive of staffs who are survivors of gender-based violence. Business Coalition for Women supports member businesses with policies, strategies, training and consulting services to help them rescript, retain and promote women in their organization. In doing so the coalition enables women to fully participate in the private sector and fosters better talent for the companies they serve.
