Another infrastructure development in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville will see the Buka Airport will undergo a major facelift.
Implementing agency, National Airports Corporation, will ensure the K43 million project is successfully delivered to the people of Bougainville.
The project covers fencing worthK10 million, and the airport redevelopment which is K33 million.
This was sealed through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding by both the National and Autonomous Bougainville Government’s.
According to National Airports Corporation’s Acting Managing Director, Joseph Tupiri, he said that Buka Airport is a priority that is jointly supported by the government of Papua New Guinea and the Asian Development Bank.
“Scope of work is fencing, runway extension of 400 metres. We will strengthen the pavement and build a new terminal.
“Size of the new terminal building will be determined by the MOU signed with the Autonomous Bougainville Government, for their contributions, so a bigger building could be built,” he said.
The signing was witnessed by National Civil Aviation Minister, Steven Davis, who thanked the Ieta landowners for their support.
“This shows, that in peace and in corporation, that we moving forward,” he said.
“Let us appreciate and not to disturb the progress of work.”
Meantime, National Airport’s Corporation is committed to ensurING the project is delivered on time beginning with the fencing that will be completed in July next year.
