A media workshop on climate change brought togther journalists both young and old andthe upcoming fromthe University of Papua New Guinea
Minister for Forests and Climate Changeatrick Pruaitch was also present.
Duringthe opening, OCCD Executive Director Varigini Badira saidthe media is a key player in educatingthe public about what is happening intheir environment.
Mr Badira stated that presenting information tothe public on climate change is a challenge because journalists lack resources or knowledge on accessing data and information onthe issue.
Over two days journalists were trained in technical aspects of climate change and how it’should be reported inthe media.
Minister Pruaitch told participants that a climate change policy was still being developed. A policy would ensure a framework where collaboration between The OCCD andthe media would be strenthened.
Participants thanked OCCD for the workshop and saidthey learnt a lot.
Throughthe workshop, OCCD aims to work more closely with journalists to inform and educatethe public about Climate Changempacts andthe opportunities it provides.
