Polye: Discuss HIV Issue Openly

By Jack Lapauve Jr – EM TV News, Port Moresby

Opposition Leader, Don Polye, wants discussions of HIV and AIDS to be conducted openly in households.

Polye said PNG’s next generation is faced with many enticements, but parenting can play a vital role in open family discussions.

“Parents must talk to their children, because family talks are more serious and means a lot between parents and children,” Polye said.

Speaking in front of about 100 people, the opposition leader encouraged parents to be more responsible in performing their parental roles as the world is becoming smaller with the use of technology.

The Member for Kandep says HIV is no secret and greater awareness to rural places must be the focus for the AIDS Council, Health Department and the national government.

The opposition leader said a systemic testing method should also be established in the country.

“We must have in place a proper testing facility where everyone will visit on regular basis and check their status,” Polye added.

He stressed this message in one of the World Aids Day commemorations in Port Moresby yesterday.
